PeterHenry
Hello all, I've just cleaned my gun, and found what looks like rust in the end of one of the barrels. I've run a finger nail over it, and can't detect any roughness or diffrence in the surface of the metal as I would expect with rust - but its enough to (unduly???) concern and irritate me. Anyone confirm it on way or the other to put my mind at ease? Many thanks,
Smokersmith
Autosol will remove it.
GingerCat
Oil up a rag and give it a good wipe round. Maybe a bit of brillo pad cut to size. Any rust/dirt/baked on oil and grime should come off. I suspect it's a bit of dirt or whatever and wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Just oil the threads lightly and clean every time you go shooting or one day your multi choke may become a fixed choke.

GingerCat
Fair point. Teach me for using my phone. Either way I wouldn' worry and would still do as I said with a brillo pad/fine wire wool.
PeterHenry
Haha, nope, no interchangeable chokes Thanks for the advice
Gordon R
Stick the phosphor bronze brush in a cordless drill - put some oil on it and give it a quick blast.
wymberley
Wire wool is good for rust. The little bits that you can't see break off and migrate to any convenient nook or cranny. And then rust.
PeterHenry
All good advice, thanks again
wymberley
If your phospher bronze brush is a wire wound version, swap it for a Payne Galway type.
figgy
Green scotch bright and oil it will soon disappear. I’ve found by polishing the interior of the barrel it marks a lot less and you don’t get the rust marking like yours has. You could have a gunsmith polish the interior of the barrels for you. Make sure you mop the barrels with a light oil before putting your gun away. I had an old AYA over and under Yeoman that would rust before your eyes in damp weather. Wiping with oil cured it.
