Lloyd90
Anyone bought any stuff from eBay when the item and seller are located in the USA? I know a lot of the big retailers say they won’t ship to the UK but some of the eBay sellers seem to. Thwyre a few hundred quid cheaper on certain scopes... Lord v
Yes, but you can get hit with hefty import charges.
bluesj
And some shooting related items are restricted by law, and its not just guns and ammo
bornfree
I've bought some tools from America never had any problems or taxes.
B&W FOX
I've brought from the states and sometimes I've been hit with duty, but not every time. I've also sold via the bay scopes to buyers in the states. Single Point sights....the trekies love them
Lloyd90
I didn’t think scopes were not allowed to be sent to the UK. Must a lot of the big manufacturers won’t send them here.

Paul1440
I bought 3 items, 2 shotgun stocks and a Browning book at different times. It was a while ago and perhaps the rules for importing gun parts has changed. I did get hit with import tax on the last Item which was a stock. Actually made a good deal into a poor one. If I need parts I now will just buy from Europe and will do until that possibly gets screwed too.
countryman
I have brought a few Invicta watches, most charge the import tax when you pay now. Still good value though. I wonder if we will still pay import tax when we finally leave the EU.
loriusgarrulus
Bought some diamond earrings from a jeweller in the US. Even with the import charges they were a fraction of the cost they would be over here.

Honey Monster
I bought a scope in 2012. Scope was 110 or 120$ I don't remember exactly. No problem with purchase and delivery but I've been hammered with 20 pounds import charges.

Yes on my earrings it was £40 which still made them 1/2 the UK price. https://www.gov.uk/goods-sent-from-abroad Lot of info on here on charges. Lord Geordie
I had trouble trying to get copper ball bearings sent from the USA due to "alledged" FBI restrictions on parts for weapons or ammunition? Then other items I wanted! Such as a CD had postage charges of £24 ? It's crazy!

Post charges can vary, I find individuals cheaper than businesses ( so far anyway), even in U/K E/Bayers sometimes load post costs.
JohnfromUK
Where an item has a 'possible' military use, there may be legal restrictions. This can apply to many things firearms related. Because the ITAR (International Trade in Arms Restrictions) regulations are complex - especially where an item has both civil and possible military usage, many firms choose not to export rather than risk possible prosecution. If they had there would have been no import duty.

Deker
Bought loads form there and at the minute I'm using comgateway forwarding to get an address in the USA, I've used USGlobalmail previously and their postage prices were cheaper but they have a monthly fee for the mailbox so depending how much you import it may not be worth it. As said though some shops won't ship to a forwarding address as they're liable if it's classed as a restricted item
