Mice!
could take it along to your nearest wild life trust, there were catching birds near me in December and reading the rings to see where the birds were coming from.

Probably best if I freeze the whole bird then as they maybe need all of it not just the ring and location found

Mice!
Yes sorry I meant the bird and ring, there is a list up asking for different species of birds if found dead, think it's so they can send them for tests fir bird flu etc

Tadorna
The best bit is when a letter arrives back giving you all the details relating to the bird. Age, where the bird was ringed etc. My best is a teal from Poland. I am always checking dead birds for rings. Have a nice collection of rings and the letter pertaining to the bird. I picked up a Peregrine that had been knocked into the water by some hoodie crows that were after its lapwing kill, BTO had ringed it a about fifty miles away, the peregrine took a lump out of my hand but actually ate some steak when offered, thanks indeed, BTO do a great job ! Konnie
Several years ago winter time found a fresh dead barn owl, ringed as a chick 20 miles away, and was the oldest recorded ringed one in the country, as said most interesting, Always check my wildfowl as they can come from all over.
