Dunkield
i was at Le Mans when the Mazda's were racing, so I have to agree with the OP This video makes you appreciate just how high they rev, be honest an say 'now' when you think it has topped out I also agree about Top Fuel/Funny Cars + the smell of course
ordnance
I like this one , give it time to warm up. F1 Formula 1 Engine Rev Out - YouTube ▶ 1:37 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kApVM30AoUo
Dunkield
You can't quite beat a DFV Cosworth, I particularity like this clip as it is like a fish out water here, but still manages rev a bit

As he came onto the start/finish straight and gunned it,,,,,time stopped and there was only noise. Black lines on the track and black smoke from the motor as the fiendish Honda engine laughed at Eco anything and blasted its way forward. Its a wound that has never healed ! Dunkield
It's undoubtedly quick but you can't hear the engine over the straight cut gearbox
figgy
The v10 BMW Montoya drove in F1 that howl when they turned the engine up for qualifying. The older rally cars with big turbos and anti-lag popping and snarling through a stage. I also like the big turbo diesels like the caterpillas fitted to big earth movers etc.

Dunkield
That reminded me of this one, 1500 bhp 'bike' running nitro. You get no idea of the noise here even turned up loud, there is a reason they wear ear defenders - watch the crowd arround 50 secs

VicW
Try this one, we were at the Goodwood FoS when the Renault team did this and were stood by the side of it. Vic. There is always the V16 BRM from the 50's. Vic.

Pistol p
It has to be a merlin. Followed very closely by the rolls Royce patented packard accompanied by the wind whistling over the gun ports on the mustang.
Dunkield
Yes. Yet another Goodwood reference, at the Revival they often have a Mustang and Spitfire in the air at the same time.
getthegat
All totally awesome. You've got to love man's pursuit of greater and more powerful engines. I was lucky to see 6R4 Metro, Audi Quattro, Porsche 911, Beetle 4 wheel drive turbo etc all on a part tarmac part dirt track at Brands Hatch back in the 80s and 90s and participated my self in drag racing at similar times, in a 1600cc beetle that would rev to 10,500 rpm. Seen and heard some amazing creations. For an odd sound, the world's fastest electric Beetle is hard to beat, just tyres on a sticky track and a whoosh. Such a shame it got wrecked.
