Afternoon all,

I bought a little Acier Martin 20b SXS off of Mr bosher a year ago and have finally done what I have wanted to do to it except getting barrels re-blued.

Mick (bosher) said he would leave the stock alone but I just couldn’t resist getting that grain showing even more being a wood lover (now now).

I made a new walnut pad as it was a little short for me. The cheapest gun I’ve boughg but my favourite I think, just such a beautiful little thing.

Why would you leave the wood as it was when you can do that to it ,nice job .

Well each to their own and some like the old history look. I tried to go between the two. Cheers ??

Looking to get the stock on my AYA No2 sidekick re finished. Is there anything you can advise me on? I'm after the finish you have achieved, with my AYA sporting a similar looking finish to what you started with. Great work and great looking grain!

Well I’m by no means a stock finishing expert and this was my second that I had done. There’s a lot more expertise in this field on here with the likes of welshwarrior to name one.

All I did was clean off old finish with fine wire wool and meths. Some experts wouldn’t use wire wool as it can leave little metal fibres in the wood but I didn’t have that problem. I gave the stock to a friend of mine who is a french polisher and he filled the gouges with hot wax.

I then used trade secrets alkanut oil first giving the bare wood 3 coats. I didn’t need to fill the grain.

I then gave it 14 coats of trade secret rapid oil finish. Thin coats rubbed in til warm. I may have done something wrong along the way but I’m happy.

cheers

A fine job sir! Did you buy a ‘kit’ or did you have to buy the individual bottles.

Im gonna have a bash at refinishing my gun in the off season :good:

Thanks Andy. Just bought individual bottles of trade secrets. Didn’t bother with the TS 95 which speeds up curing process.

Go for it mate 👍🏻

You sir have breathed a new lease of life into that gun. Stunning wood and action, you have done a top job👍well done!

Yes, the little gun deserved it. Just for the barrels now. Not doing that though.

Cheers

Very nice figured stock and the oil brings it and shows it off well.

Cracking job that makes the gun.

It is a beautiful stock and well worth the £300 I paid for the gun.

Cheers fig
