Looking for some advice. Im going to be putting my CZ HMR up for sale as i am not really using it. I also want to start black powder revolver shooting.

My question is,can i just put in for a 1 4 1 variation, being a different type of firearm,or do i need to pay for a normal variation? I will not be needing the HMR slot any more.

Most likely going to be a 'normal' variation (not 1 for 1) so you're going to have to pay for it as a revolver isn't really a similar calibre

Variation (not like for like) – applicable only to firearm certificates   £20

Just put in for the 1-4-1, no fee needed.

I've swapped moderator slots for firearms, firearm slots for moderators, rifle slots for S1 shotguns, handgun slots for moderators, etc.
Cannot recall ever having to pay a fee, as I only increase at time of renewal.

As above. I’ve swopped one caliber for a different one, and also changed a slot for a moderator for a firearm. No fees were charged.
