Jonty
It's not gundog related, but my wee cocker went for an assessment today with a couple of Search and Rescue Dog Association (SARDA) handlers. I'm really pleased as she showed great potential and now is about to embark on the best part of two years training as mountain rescue search and rescue dog - I'm absolutely proud as punch with her. Iaindp
How does that work Jonty? Does the dog still stay with you during it's training or live away with the handler and if so, doesn't that break the bond with you?
Jonty
I'll be her handler, so realistically it's also me starting training too - she knows what she's doing and I've got 2 years of learning to do. Most of the training is getting together with other local handlers on a weekly basis and also a series of set formal courses that are held nationally. There's a series of tests interspersed across the training period too. We're very lucky that we have three very experienced handlers in our 'patch' so we are in good hands so to speak.
