ferguson_tom Posted March 8, 2018 Report Share Posted March 8, 2018 I recently bought a transit which i knew would eventually need a bit of welding but I had a good poke around last night before the MOT and created this hole in the inner sill just behind the front drivers side wheel. The outside sill is solid still and apart from the mudguard bracket dont think anything of importance bolts to it or near it. its booked in for an MOT on Friday is it worth taking still or has it no hope of passing? I have taken old landrovers for MOTs before with holes in the floor which have passed but not sure about the sills on this.I will get the work done as apart from this and a small area of corrosion on the rear nearside sill its pretty solid underneath and in good condition, but its a job i would rather do when weather warms up a bit! getthegat Posted March 8, 2018 Report Share Posted March 8, 2018 I'm sure it's less than 12" from structural area these days and just the word sill, usually means fail. Going off at a slight tangent, a no mot requirement for vehicles over 40 years is coming in soon. Personally I think it is ridiculous, all mot points are about yours and other road users safety. ferguson_tom Posted March 10, 2018 Author Report Share Posted March 10, 2018 Thanks for the advice everyone, took it for the mot and tester couldn't open the bonnet so it wasn't done. He did however take a look underneath for me and said this was a fail and also found another bit on the rear sill I didn't notice. Currently at a body shop having the bits done.
