Hi All

I am after a decent second hand scope to go on my new 22lr but not sure what to go for I know its all personal preference but what mag would you go for on a rimfire

I am looking at 4-16 x 50 and 6-24 x 50 both with adjustable side parallax I will use the rifle for both day and night shooting using my nitesite wolf rtec at night

whats your thoughts on these mags

I have a basic Hawke  4 to something ..not a lot with a the dots on the reticule but I have to admit old ways take some getting ignored and I still judge hold over by eye.

If you want a really spart scope have a look at the Hawke Airmax range, I have three of their scopes and they all work very well, two on air rifles and one on a 17HMR. Pretty good light gathering as well.

I tend to use 6x on everything I own, even though all my scopes are capable of far more, useful for scanning around in the distance sometimes.

Does me up to 200 yards no problem at all, seldom have the need to go much past that with any rifle I use in the field.

I have the Hawke subsonic vantage 3-9 on mine and I love it.... however I am changing it for the Hawke subsonic vantage 4-12.

For me I just wanted a slight bit more than the 9 in some circumstancs

99.9% I will use 8 anyway

it’s my ocd I think

I had a 6-18x40 bsa sweet 22 on my 22lr, I replaced it with an ancient S&B 6x42 and much prefer the latter. At night with the lamp on low the clarity is amazing.

If you want the scope that came off it is just gathering dust, and is missing one turret cap. I cant imagine ever using it again, if someone somewhere is starting out and after a scope with plenty of bells and whistles (adjustable parralax, magnification, and changable ballistic turrets) they can have it for cost of postage.

Well my mate shoots his .22 lr in comps and the field  out to 100 yds .and he uses 30x mag .

Gun groups around an inch at 100 yds .

This isnt possible on 9x mag .

So depends on your uses .

Personally for me hunting out to around 80 yds id use 14 x mag .

I think with better glass it’s easily do able.

i used 10 at 500 yards at Xmas. No problem .

At 100 yards I can use 10 mag for 1inch groups and I’ve managed .6 inch groups.

i don’t like the extra mag now . I always used to tho
