Salop Matt
As above folks, We maybe in the market for a trap gun for the wife... But i haven't a clue about trap guns. Budget £1k but ideally cheaper. Right handed and 12bore. 30" maximum barrels but ideally 28" if viable. What do you recommend or know of for sale ? Not committing to a purchase just yet until she's given it a few more goes but if it looks like it's working out for her then I want to get her something that fits her and is a constant for her to learn with sooner rather than later. She does have high cheek bones too. And a 9lb gun would be too heavy for her. Regards Matt
Guest stevo
I would have to say for your budget it’s got to be a nice MK38 grd 1 1. It’s a proper trap gun end of , and great platform for her to learn to shoot trap from . 2. It’s around 8lbs . Which is a good average weight . in a 100 bird comp , any lighter it would start to knock her about all over the place by the time she is onto her third layout she will want to go home, also a lighter gun can be hard work as the front end can be quite whippy which may cause her to start flicking the barrel over the top of the targets , any heavier and she is going to struggle stoping the gun and be in front or over the top of her targets when she tires And then she’s going start to throw the gun onto targets . Good Trap shooting is about being able to shoot your 100th target as good and as positivity as you did the 1st one repetition repetition repetition. And then you move onto the concentration part ?? 3. For a trap gun the MK38 in its original untampered form is quite flat shooting ( lowish comb ) which will suit her high cheek bones , 4. If and when she is ready to move onto something else , resale will be painless and if you get a good price on it when you first bought it your get most of you money back . The above is just my opinion. Either way the best of luck ? Edited April 1, 2018 by stevo

welshwarrior
Mk38 is a great place to start your search doubt you’ll find a 28” trap gun 30” is normal though. Other option may be a 686 DTL Not sure why all women need comb raisers but never knock a generalisation as they are always wrong ? Get advice on fit for trap shooting on any gun she likes.
