I'd then keep the dog and do everything I could to fix him, as i KNOW i couldn't give any puppy back as i'm a soft **** Hes so young and if he needs his pelvis broke, bones heal back nicely at that age, quoted by my vet, if my cocker broke his leg 6 weeks crate rest and it would be on its way to recovery where as a 5yr old dog would need alot more vet help.Has the vet said its curable? My cocker was on crate rest for 6 weeks at 4 months old, he coped brilliantly so yes it isn't nice putting a puppy through surgery and broken bones, but they do cope better than you think. Will he be useless? He could be a pet for your other half (maybe he could do low level beating or something and she could get involved?) and you could get something else - as said, i'm a soft **** so i'd work away around it. They have refused to confirm anything over the phone, you must send in a claim form and there is a 35 days wait to see if they’ll cover you or not ... by which time you’ve either paid for the OP and then find out your not covered, or you find out you are covered and your 5 weeks free has run out ... so you basically have to take out their on-going insurance for £70 a month ... then the condition might not even be covered, so they will let you cancel it but you can’t have your money back... Reading your original post, thoughts from other members and your decision is a not nice situation. It’s easy for anyone to comment but you are the person looking at the pup right now. Whilst hard, when a dog is old you know you may have to make that decision. It’s a different ball game with a pup, especially with no visual signs of illness. best of luck to all 3 of you. Ah what a shame, seems to of definitely changed since I spoke to them which was over 6 months ago now I guess. £70 a month is crazy, maybe they also put price sup, mine is £30. He also said they won’t know if they have to break the pelvis until they’re inside him. We have gone through similarthree or four times. Had a 14mth old pup suddenly die in his box in our kitchen whilst we sat eating supper, thought that was bad and then had a four year old drop dead half way down a drive on a shooting day. Years have gone by but we have never really got over it. My recommendation is , go out and find a new one as soon as possible, it helps , believe me. Posted April 7, 2018 Report Share Posted April 7, 2018 Sounds awful Lloyd, i remember my dad taking a German shepherd pup back to the breeder, can't remember why but us three kids weren't happy. I know what you mean about not wanting to look at other dogs, but give it a week or so and you'll be having a peek, perfect time of year for a new pup to brighten you and the girl friends mood up. I know what you mean mate... this pup would have been perfect - coming up 20 months just at the start of the 2019 Shooting season. Thoughts are with you and the other half x Don't get to heated up with a full FTCH pedigree, as long as it has a nice bit of FTCH in it, it’s the training that makes the dog IMO. There was a FTCH x FTCH litter for sale over the weekend mind. Best of luck, try and find a newly born litter so you get to pick. Something will pop up.
