Great buy Holloway.  They are brilliant, reliable and very good handling guns.  I have  one for 20 years. Its done ALOT  of work in that time. Looks very clean gun. Has the chokes been eased out or original half and full? Would it be too cheeky to ask how much you paid?

Chokes are unknown but i estimate quarter or half and full ,i plan to get the full changed to half .

I've just got home from two days at the Game Fair, with an AYA No.2 to add to the collection. A gun I've always wanted to own, and I managed to find one in very good condition at a decent price.

Nearly 2 years ago I bought this from an auction:

image.jpeg.0546de99b8fb41b42847d24800ac8286.jpegIt was filthy  and unloved but all there.

Using different trades, it has now been stripped, boiled, rebuilt, chokes altered, some action parts blacked, barrel engraving re-picked, barrels re-blacked, chequering re-cut and the stock refinished. I got it back yesterday. I have also found a case for it (well, two actually, I need to decide which). It was bought to be a spare gun to another Dickson (a round action) and there is 33g weight and 1/8" LOP difference between the two. Both have 29" barrels but handle quite differently. It now looks like this:

It`s great when someone can see the potential of a lovely gun like that and has the initiative (and money) to restore it to its former glory.

Well done for that and thanks for sharing.

Looks a nice gun.  Well done for rescuing it.  It was my understanding that the boxlock Dicksons were usually Birmingham built (and none the worse for that I hasten to add).

Almost certainly.

Thank you. I broke the works down by trade to bring the bill down.

63 Princes St. I think it was sold in 1923.

I've had chokes opend by Ladbrooke & Langton, but might be a bit too far for you.

I bought this at auction in August 2024. I prefer modern hammer guns to old hammer guns as I prefer an Anson rod fastening to a Deeley or a Hackett system. Not too fond of the modern pistol grip style but that...if the gun fits elsewise with drop and cast...can be taken out when the stock is lengthened. Continental 70c (27 3/4") barrels but I can just about live with that.
