Salop Matt
As above really. I have a lansky type sharpening system with the rods and stones. Finest is 1000 grit yellow. My knifes are sharp at this on a 20° sharpen bar my carbon Opinel which is on 17°. Is it worth going to 2000grit ? ATB Matt
Bazooka Joe
I've added this, certainly made a difference, https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3000-ruby-sharpener-stone-with-base-Freeshipping-Dropshipping-1-piece-price-Ruby-oil-stone/767729079.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.72524c4dVMDqes
tx4cabbie
Unless it's a razor I tend to take my edges to about 1000 grit then strop on chromium oxide impregnated leather. Stays toothy and slicey, but polished edge zips through things and lasts longer.
paulinlincs
I believe the yellow lansky is ceramic but could be wrong. Mega highly polished edges look nice and are fun to pop hairs but depending on what you need the blade to do, a toothy ( i think thats a word) edge is sometimes a better option. I have knifes that will pop hairs but to open a box are useless. If your edge at 1000 grit suits your needs then stop there.
Robertt
Bought an Outdoor Edge Razor lite so my sharpening days are over. Having said that I can virtually double the life of the disposable blade with a steel and strop when they do go dull. Scary sharps blades. https://www.bushwear.co.uk/outdoor-edge-razor-lite-edc-orange-335073.html Edited May 20, 2018 by Robertt

johnnytheboy
1000 grit is more or less a mirror finish, I deplore the use of throw away blades! Tool sharpening should be one thing every man learns!
