Barley .

No barley, but the wheat is getting hit each afternoon in my bit of Essex. I was out yesterday and had over 40, the dog retrieved some, (she did so well for her first proper shoot and now realises what I've been asking of her) but much to my dislike most had to stay where they dropped out in the standing corn. (No point in reducing pigeon numbers if I go wandering about pushing even more of the crop to the floor. Hopefully the foxes will find the free feast) The wheat grains are still soft, just about to pass the milky stage, more like rice pudding when bitten between the teeth at the moment. Really wanted to have another go at them today, but the heat and exertion of clearing a neglected patch of land this week in the heat, took its toll. With luck I'll find a few hours one afternoon in the next few days.
