It's arrived, tool porn be warned!

Very jealous.

I have a Myford lathe and when the motor blew up, because I did something stupid, for about the same price as a new one I bought a digital VFD and 3 phase motor. It runs incredibly smoothly and I can just dial the speed up and down as well as switching it into reverse without running the risk of blowing it up like before! Worth considering as an upgrade.

Well got the threaded bar made up for the collets and gave it a go and what a machine, its super accurate and so easy to use and sooo quiet.

I will let you in on what I am making if it works but I was thinking could it be used to make knifes given the head can be tilted and the next knife I want to make is a thick old chunk of steel!

Snap!

Latest one came up first..... both machines upgraded to 3ph motors but with one inverter/controller.. bought from the very helpful Power Capacitors in Tyseley, B’ham. Both the original motors were imperial footprints but we decided on metric units to get the better choice of motors..worked out cheaper to have 2 motors the same too.

I just had to mill additional slots on the Myford mount but had to make up new mounts for the mill motor plate to replace the motor’s feet. ?

As you say.....very smooth running. I’ve not tried it in its horizontal mode as yet.

Cheers
