Evening all

well it’s been a while since I have posted any pictures of my shooting bags , to be honest I had sort of packed it in much to the disgust of my land owner buddy’s . But that changed yesterday morning .

As some know I bought a beretta 391 Teknys with the intended use of skeet and sportrap, and so just for a little bit of a hobby I have been busy modifying bits an bobs on it ready for some comps and also as a bit of a pigeon gun , any way.......

on sat evening I popped over to one of my farms with no other intention of watching a pair of nesting Little owls that have taken residence in one of our old grain stores . Just wanted to see  that there both all fine a dandy .

As I approached to my horror I could see something kicking off around where the owls ? are nesting . As I got closer my fears where realised as the cock bird was flying ( I’m assuming to get tea ) the Rooks were chasing it off and then doing there best to get it on the way back ,

anyone that doesn’t know , crows and rooks WILL kill little owls all day long given the chance .

After 20 mins I had enough,  it was time for a rescue mission in the morning , and a great excuse to see how the Modded beretta delt with something a bit tougher than a orange clay hahah .

next morning I rocked up , set up on other side of field against an old brick shed , yes my intentions were to take the pressure off these little owls , but at the same time I didn’t want to disturb them too much in case they have young , so I had to be as far from the crows/ rooks as reasonably possible to get the job done . So I had to call them over two smallish fields .

I was there for a bout  3 hrs with just

my semi , 3 boxes of shells , a sam neat call , a  very basic hide set up

finished on a total of 50 mixed carrion , 2 ferals , 1 woodpigeon .

Job done !

how do you get on with the sam neat? I have one and TBH im carp with it. Any tips?

I had the primos one ( think that’s how you pronounce it) and personally found it ok , the sam neat one I find is deeper sounding and better for pulling in older birds , especially big hen rooks and hen carion , it’s like porn to them when used correctly, I will say when your calling DONT OVER DO IT.  Especially when your first starting out ..

The primos I find are pretty hard to beat on younger birds , and jackdaws love it .

But it’s like anything you need to practice and keep practicing. And listen to the birds and the calls there making .

Just keep it simple and and don’t over do it , also try not to change your pitch too much , if you listen to older rooks they have very monotone call . ?

Well done on the "mercy" trip and a good result.

I hope the videos will start coming again, they were most enjoyable.:good:

I will have to dig out my head cam , that’s if it still works .
