Winchester Grand European

Any opinions on the above? Since selling my Browning XT I've been mourning it's loss and want another trap gun. I have this on trial just now and just wondered what people in the know thought of them.

It doesn't appear to have done very much, I read Winchesters tend to loosen up quickly but this is still tight with the top lever still sitting well right of centre and certainly doesn't fall open. It's nicely engraved too. It's a fixed choke 3/4 and full and patterns beautifully!

Where did the Grand European sit in the range?

Not keen on the varnished stock but that could be stripped and oiled.

Finally what would be a sensible price to offer for it?

Why not get someone to measure you and get a stock modified to fit you rather than trying to find an existing one fit?

I wasn't intending on doing any modifications, I just fancy another trap gun after selling my XT a few years back.

I'm sure Scully will elaborate far more than I can but I'll throw in what I know. The Grand European is pretty much top of the range, below it you have the Diamond Grade guns. Pricewise you're looking at at least a grand, probably more towards £1300-£1400, obviously depending on quality.

Can't comment on how they shoot because I've only shot the Diamond grade guns. They are nice solid guns that imo fit similar to Brownings.

Looks a nice enough gun. The engraving is standard for a GE and as the chokes are fixed ( I've seen some GE's with extended chokes and it looks awful in my opinion ) it would appear to be all original, and original unmolested GE's attract a premium.

101's are old guns now but still very popular with many people, and GE's are about as good as it gets in that marque. There are many on gun trader ( MGR specialise in them ) so it shouldnt be too difficult to price your particular model.

If it has it's original case it would be a boon, but even without it should hold its price well. If you're interested in 101 trap guns the Diamond Grade and 8500 are also well worth a look.

I'm going to keep it. I gave it a good clean tonight, had the ejectors out and such like and it seems to be beautifully built. Just about all the parts are numbered with the serial number, even the ejectors. And bits inside you only see when it's apart are engine turned. Real attention to detail.

No case unfortunately! Thanks for the info though.

It's an absolute classic ...

My uncle has both this, and the game model.

Anything less than a grand then rip his arm off .. up to 1500 nd you have a great gun for the money.

It feels like a classic!
