Camo tape

Has anyone used the tape or home/DIY cammo'd their gun?

The metal work and wood work on my A303 are both rough, which isn't a problem as it cycles and shoots fine, Im thinking now a camouflaged gun would probably be more practical for the hide etc. For what the guns worth it's not worth trading in or trying to part with as I know realisticly I'd be looking at second hand escort money at best.

And advice from the PW massive would be gratefully appreciated.

Use the self sticky 'bandage type camo tape for the silencer end of my rifles, not that it makes that much difference but have noticed the odd magpie see the movement occasionally.

My 870 Wingmaster is painted with matt model paint, again done on a whim but don't know if the crows/pigeons appreciate it. My 16gauge Rem 1100 has replacement camo fore end and stock I found in a shop in Texas, USA the barrel is camoed with matt Humbrol model paint again.   The Humbrol camo paint makes a good job AND is relatively easy to remove if you feel the need later.  It will wear through where you handle it eventually but you will have fired a fair few shots by then.

Thanks, I'll have a proper look into the tape and paint at the weekend.

Originally I was thinking of stripping and re-finishing the wood and re painting the action but if it got knocked which being a rough gun it probably would, I would of wasted my time.

Do you know if the tape will hold to the wood work?

You can buy camouflage gaffer tape that will stick better. The sticky stuff is called Vet Wrap and you can buy it in pet shops or horsey places

I like the idea of painting it, but I don't think I have the necessary skills ?

I'll definitely give that vet wrap a look to,

Thanks

No-Mar tape works well and doesn't leave a sticky mess when you peel it off. I've tried a few brands of cammo tape and still always come back to No-Mar.

Like you, I'm convinced that a cammo gun doesn't stand out like a plain black barrel does in the hide.

(You can get it other places of course, but this came up first on a Google search.)

Not leaving a sticky mess would be a bonus too and for the sake of 8 quid definitely seems worth a try.

Hopefully as well as breaking the outline of the gun up it will tidy it up a bit too.

Thanks for the link.

Yes, it is the same as vetwrap but camoflaged. I purchased mine in the States, don't know if you can get it here. It sticks to itself not the gun. Ideal for wrapping round silencers.  The gaffer tape camo will also work but it is almost permanent like paint.  You do not have to be expert at painting, for a camo effect the rougher the pattern the better, it basically just cuts the shine down because with nice shiny guns every time you move one on a sunny day they will flash and it is movement they see.  If it is just a working gun, then go into the Hobby store or a model shop and buy a selection of matt military colours and a paint brush and go at it.  The finish product is not for you or your friends but for the birds.

I was thinking matt green then build up with a few other colours on top, so long as it blends with roughly with the hide I'll be happy.

I used gorilla camo tape on my Huspower silencer and it worked well.

Think use something like that on the stock, not sure about the fore end though.

I've picked up a cheap BSA meteor from a work colleague. My lad will be presented with on his 10th birthday next month.

I've pimped it up with a simple spray job using three spray paints-one black, one mid green and a lightish cream-the pattern effect come from overlaying conifer branches and spraying light on dark and vice versa. Simple but looks the part for a young shooter.

pics below.

That looks spot on!

Never thought of using branches/leafs for the effect, would save the hassle of trying to wrap the grip.

Did you give it a key with sand paper first?

yes, just a quick once over so the paint would grab-lots of youtube videos doing various guns, quads and  pick ups.

couldn't a further picture as limited on Mb but its well worth a go-three shades has given it a  3d depth which I like.

stick a pic up if you spray your 303

cheers

Yeah I will do, just want to find the colours that match mossy/ English oak as that's what the rest of my kit is.

Go onto Ali Express and look up camo tape. You can buy it for a fraction of the UK price.

Thanks I'll check that out too

Somewhere I have a full roll of No Mar and also a camo fabric gun cover.

I'll dig them out if interested.

Thank you for the offer, how much are you looking for, for them?

If I can't find the paint I want it will have to be the tape route anyway.
