Lord Geordie Posted August 3, 2018 Report Share Posted August 3, 2018 Guys, I have been passed a picture depicting a spitfire flown by Paddy Barthropp of 602 squadron titled “tribute to the few” painted by Keith Hill. This is a limited edition print “No2 of 2000” signed both by Paddy Barthropp and Keith Hill. The picture is quite some size at 34” across the frame! I have been asked to find an estimate for this piece with a view to sell. I have found Keith Hill prints between £40 for the small and £140ish for the large “new” but nothing limited print from him? Nor signed by the artist and pilot. This picture also has a real RAF cloth insignia in the lower left corner. It’s a stunning piece. I can add a few pics to try and give an idea! acsimmo Posted August 3, 2018 Report Share Posted August 3, 2018 Have you thought about contacting the Sqn direct, it is now an auxiliary unit in Glasgow, They are normally happy to pay for items using heritage funds etc. If they don’t want it directly they will be able to put you in touch with someone at the RAF museum who I would imagine would have info on the picture at the very least. I can certainly try and find some more info if needs be but spent hours online today to find very little other than an amazing video of Ann interview with the pilot! What a chap, down to earth and full of mishchief as a younger man! 2 DFCs etc! Captured after being shot down! Mingling with Bader etc! Vince Green Posted August 3, 2018 Report Share Posted August 3, 2018 (edited) Take it to your local auction house for an initial valuation, which may or may not be much good depending on the experience of the valuer. and/or send photo via email to the curator of the RAF Museum at Hendon and ask what he thinks you should do with it . This needs to go into a specialist militaria auction, Bonningtons or similar, not a country sale Send them an email with picture as well. I used to love sitting for ages listening to his stories over a few beers . God I would love to still be able to ......
