old'un
There was an article in the Sept/Oct BASC Shooting and Conservation magazine testing non toxic air rifle pellets, the tests for the “green pellets” were not that impressive, but the article also mentions the future pressure on air rifle shooters to switch to non toxic pellets, are lead air rifle pellets days numbered? Ultrastu
Well if they are you may as well say goodbye to using them for hunting . Ive tested the best offering of green pellets so far and although they can be accurate out to say 30 yds .there terminal effectiveness on quarry is pathetic. . I for one will stock pile as many jsb exacts as possible .
old'un
Yep, the tester mentions how the accuracy of the tin based pellets falls away sharply at 30 yards with a cross wind, so head shots at 30-40 yards with these green pellets will be fun. I was reading a topic on a USA shooting forum about the lead ban on rifle ammo in California, some of the posters were talking about the reason for the ban, one guy mentions that part of the ban was due to secondary lead poisoning of animals eating vermin shot by hunters and left in the field, there was also talk on the forum of a possible ban on air rifle pellets for the same reason, if it can happen in the US then it can certainly happen here. old'un
But if there is a ban on lead pellets as with shotguns and wildfowl shooting, wont you be breaking the law?
Ultrastu
The easiest way to impelment a ban would be to stop the sale of lead pellets .that way when you have run out you can only buy tin . Its also easier to get shops and manufacturers to stop selling .than it is to police shooters .

madmax666
Giles Barry did a youtube on this subject the lead free didn't do so well, like all light pellets they lose their speed and energy very quickly.
1066
I think the government would just ban any form of live quarry shooting with airguns. They did it with bows and crossbows years ago with hardly a ripple of protest, they have already started thinning out airguns in Scotland, they talk about bringing in licences in England (even welcomed by some shooters). They are even now actively proposing to ban any under 18 shooting airguns on any land including private gardens unless within a recognised club. This type of legislation could easily be slipped in on the back of some animal rights or environment bill. Just needs a bit of Facebook or media hysteria about lead poisoned puppies and it's a done job.
