Bit random, but I have the above car for sale. Rear wheel drive sports car with perfect 50:50 weight distribution, so ideal for shooting!! :s

Well, it's a sad day - my 1986 Porsche 944 Lux is provisionally up for sale. My life circumstances have changed, I have a baby daughter and a long train commute (and an ancient tractor!) and the 944 isn't getting the use it deserves. It was MOT'd at the start of August, so now is the time to provisionally offer it up for sale, and see what happens (MOT expires 15th of August 2019). The MOT did have some minors, but they've mostly been sorted:

Repair as soon as possible (minor defects):

Rear Inner Brake hose slightly damaged brake hose ferals deteriated (1.1.12 (b) (i)) REPLACED & UNDERSEALED

Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):

Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material general (1.1.11 (c)) UNDERSEALED &  MONITORING?

Fuel Pipe/s corroded () UNDERSEALED &  MONITORING?

Offside Front Upper Macpherson strut pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement (5.3.4 (a) (i)) MONITORING, NOT NOTICEABLE TO ME

Offside Front Wheel bearing has slight play (5.1.3 (a) (i)) ADJUSTED, NICE AND TIGHT

Nearside Front Wheel bearing has slight play (5.1.3 (a) (i)) ADJUSTED, NICE AND TIGHT

corrosion on suspension components not considered excessive MONITORING

Offside Front Lower steering column slight noise but no excessive play found MONITORING, NOT NOTICEABLE AGAIN

So it has a few niggles, but is generally mechanically sound and is still in regular use. If it doesn't go, not the end of the world. If it does go, I'll be upset! But I'll be back to 944s, probably with an S2 in the future when the kids have grown up...

Anyway, it's a 1986 2.5l Lux. It's black! I've owned it for around ten years, some 50,000 miles, and 2 belt changes. It's done 118,500 odd miles (will rise slightly as it's still in use), low for the year, and I looked at about 10 cars before buying this one. I also had it checked over by a specialist in Rockhampton before buying it, and it's a good one. (Only points I remember he noted were a loose door handle and a missing sun roof liner - still got his report somewhere, I'll fish it out). Mostly full service history (last done in Aug 2018), by myself for the basics (oil, filter, plugs etc.) and by a couple of local independent / specialist garages for trickier bits. I put new Dunlop Bluresponse tyres on the 15" wheels that are on the car in 2015 (I've only done about 5000 miles on them), and it also comes with a set of 17" Cup 1 alloys (replicas I believe) - good tyres on the front, bit worn but still legal on the back.

Good mechanical condition, always starts, Cat 1 immobiliser fitted. The sills are pretty good, though both sides have had a bit of patching for the recent MOT. All thoroughly sealed underneath, and waxoyled inside the sills. Only used for medium - long journeys when it will warm through properly.
New ARB brackets / bushes in Aug 2014. A new second-hand lower steering coupler in 2015. New brake and fuel lines over the past couple of years. A couple of new bits in the brake vacuum system in July 2013. Probably lots of good bits that I've missed. Big thick folder of receipts, invoices etc.
Clutch was replaced at 65,000 miles, it's not original.
The front seats are half leather and in great condition, a little wear in the usual spot on the driver's side bolster, but not much even there. I will add pictures of the interior.

Less good bits! See the MOT advisories above. Also, the paintwork. It's not anywhere near concourse, it lives on my drive in all weathers, and it has a few scrapes and bumps (the odd car park wound). I bought it to drive and use, not to be a garage queen. A polish would improve it (I've never polished a car in my life!), but if you were after perfection it might need a respray.
The dashboard is cracking and the clock doesn't work.
One of the sunroof micro switches doesn't work, so the pins do not stop retracting - you just have to choose when to stop them - not rocket science!
If parked with the bonnet pointing up a slope in heavy rain, there is a small drip into the passenger side footwell. Drains are clear, but I think there might be a screw missing behind the fuse box or similar that lets water in when rain is really heavy.
The belts and rollers are due to be done, on time (4.5 years ish) not mileage (I've done less than 15,000 in the past 4 years) - I will check exactly when. I will possibly do this myself if it doesn't sell and I decide to keep it. But as it's regularly used and not left standing (allowing the belts to mould to the rollers, kink and possibly jump off) I would and do happily use it as is in the meantime. It had a new water pump at the last belt change, and new rollers at the first belt change, possibly the second as well. I will check the paperwork.
Oh, and the rear brakes bind slightly - they were cleaned up for the MOT but still seem to be binding a bit. It needs to be driven more, or possibly new calipers - which are £95 each from design911. I may do these myself.

Given the above, I'd be looking for somewhere in the £4000 range, but am open to reasonable offers. (I see Luxes for sale for a lot more, £5 - £10,000 but that may be optimistic and I don't know if they're actually selling for these prices) It's an honest car that is fine to use as is but would benefit from more use and perhaps some TLC. As said, I won't be upset if it doesn't sell, but I'd like it to go to someone who will use it, and the Welsh winter wouldn't help it. Car is based near Chepstow.

Please ask if I've missed anything, and I'll put more pics up when I get a chance.

Cheers.

Giles

Thanks chaps.

Yep, I've had a lot of fun with her over the past 10 years or so, and if she doesn't sell I'll not be upset! But the Welsh winters in a shady valley aren't good for metal work.

Price-wise I think it's fair, given that the car needs a few bits of work. I will accept higher offers though!

I had one about 10 years ago. Great car but sold it to fund a 4x4.

Keep looking at the 944 Turbo. I had a drive of one  which had been chipped and putting out  around 350bhp. It was awsome. The thing is 10 years ago you could hardly give them away as the Purists then would only look at the 911s.   They are now being appreciated as proper Porsches and Prices are escalating pretty quick.  So what was a bargain may be becoming out of reach by the time a sports car is an option again.

They are great cars, and I've enjoyed this one a lot. (Tried a 944 turbo but the Lux is more usable as a day to day drive - smoother power delivery. I'd consider a 3.0 litre S2 though!)

As the rubbish rotten ones become uneconomical to repair, the good ones should appreciate - in fact, values have definitely gone up since I bought mine.

Had a strong interest from a chap today, and now I'm tempted to keep it!
