Not true, the TD5, 2.4 and 2.2 Defender engines can have a professional ECU tune for not too much money that makes the world of difference.

I had my 2.4 tuned from the standard 122 bhp to 150 bhp with a huge increase in torgue, ideal for an auto and I had a 2.2 tuned to 165bhp.Β  There is no need to uprate the drive train either. The tunes also make the Defender much much more driveable and easy on motorways.

Have a look at these 2 tuners which I have used in the past.Β  There are several others that might be a consideration:

My 13 plate tdci with only 16000 miles on the clock all ready has some back lash on the rear diff in fact it's had it from a lot less miles than that, I have just changed all the oils which made a slight improvement. I have had a few land rovers so I don't think it's my driving style. Any ideas .
