1066
Could you tell us what make/model it is? or a photograph. If it's break barrel target pistol it could be an Original 6 or 10. These were entry level target pistols from the 1980's, they were recoilless and worked on the Giss system with opposing pistons. The plastic piston seals break up after a time, they are quite tricky to work on and expensive to repair if damaged.
wobbly bob 2
Be aware that the law requires your grandson to be at least 18 years old to receive the pistol as a gift.
AlexBee
Thanks for info guys , yes it is an 'Original' , so probably have to give up on that ! I hadn't realised that it had become law yet - wobbly bob 2 ?
wobbly bob 2
Sorry, yes, quite some time ago Alex. Modified on 1 October 2007 by the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006, the Firearms Act 1968 Section 24(4)(a) reads: It is an offence to make a gift of an air weapon or ammunition for an air weapon to a person under the age of eighteen. Good information on Young People and Air Weapons on BASC website. The Home Office publishes a handy leaflet on airgun safety and the law. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/650548/air-weapons-a-brief-guide-to-safety.pdf
wobbly bob 2
With regard to the pistol, I have just noticed a two-part article running in Air Gunner of a guy rebuilding an Original 6 complete with new synthetic piston seals. Looks a piece of cake 😏
