Don't forget the free Health Service and Benefits to all EU comers, we must be barking mad to have ever got in this place.

hello, i quite agree but you have to look back to 1973 as to who led the vote for the UK to join the EEC, and the vote given to the UK people in 1975 by the Labour party to continue membership with a nearly 70% in favour, maybe we have only ourselves to blame BUT i do not think the millions who voted had any idea this would lead to all the problems we have today

Northern Ireland is as British as England.

Tell that to the people in the Clerkhill Inn Peterhead during and after a Scotland v England match then again it takes their attention away from fighting ... The Brock.

Heard the Czech PM on R4 last week say how much they need us with massive immigration problems facing Europe. I sense we may have a stronger position than they are letting on. Also one of the 'opposition ' commented that they hoped PM(TM) would get a good deal as they were scared bonking Boris might become PM!

A least Boris is Bonking women unlike Macron and our Irish Minister.

Much rather bonking Boris than cretin corbyn, you would have to call on his judgement especially around previous partners and sympathy for certain organisations.

No the FTSE is rising because sterling is falling as there is an increased chance of a hard Brexit. As the majority of FTSE constituent companies have large overseas earnings weak sterling means increased revenue (in GBP)

Sterling has risen and fallen  regularly over the last few years, going back beyond the Referendum, and it will continue to do so...........it,s only the uncertainty over a deal that is causing flutters. Regardless of the outcome, sterling will contine to rise and fall, until the various trade deals are done.

We're not allowed to do that yet as we're still bound by being a member of the EU, which is why they're so smug at the moment, although if May actually grows a pair, tells them to stuff it and she delivers a hard brexit (which is far closer to the brexit voted for than chequers ever would be) the EU won't be laughing then, they'll realise we'll do far better without them and junker and pals can go down with their sinking EU ship!

True!

i hope so, the way some people have been talking on the radio recently it sounds like the world will end if we dont get a deal!!

They are virtually all Remoaners, and have been trying to stop Brexit from day 1. Don,t listen to them, a bunch of self-serving , greedy morons, most of whom have a holiday home in Europe!

A fence or ..... Give Northern Ireland back to the South.

NO! It,s not what the Majority of the people in Northern Ireland want! Why sell them down the river, to placate Brussels?  More Ulstermen fought and died in WW2, tper head of population, than from anywhere else in the UK!  We do not betray our own.....we leave that to Corbyn!

Remember when Robin Cook was Foreign Secretary, under Tony Blair?  Ran off with his secretary, didn,t even have the guts to tell his wife to her face!  He dumped her at the airport! He had had, according to his first wife, several affairs, and was a heavy drinker. He was also a huge fan of the EU. Not a lot of hate Press over that.......................so let,s leave Boris; affairs out of politics. Not many on here, I suspect, who have not had a daaliance with another...?

The votes in the 70,s followed massive pro-Common Market propaganda, and lies! Never again!

If there is no Deal the UK could do a really bold move and make the EU look the the enemy with Ireland. Quite simply say anything coming in from ireland is zero rate tariff and doesn't require any customs checks, it doesn't have to be a bilateral agreement once we leave we can choose how we receive goods from countries individually. If they want a border let them build and man it at their expense. Yes there is a risk Ireland will be the backdoor into Britain but you only have to do it for a few years before you close the gap, by then the Eu should have backed down or if they haven't we still wouldn't be the bad guys.

Nobody actually gives a Flying 'Fig' about Ireland, we don't and the EU doesn't. Its virtually a non country, they don't really do anything, they don't produce much and very few British people even visit the place. Its surprising really, when you consider how big it is and how close it is, just how little we have to do with them.

Plenty of them come to the U.K. to train at our universities and schools and come back and forth with goods.

Also lots come over here to work because the work back home isn’t as good, not as well paid and not as available.

Have several Irish friends in Bristol, there’s loads over into the cities for work.

That's true for a lot of EU countries but is that good for us or just them taking advantage of us because they can?

Are they taking advantage? Or is their mutual benefit? Seems to be a bit of both depending on the individual case.

Lots I know are nurses working in the NHS,  particularly in specialist areas like ICU, with notorious burn out rates, low staff and difficult to recruit areas.

Should we send them back to open that post up to a British worker? There’s already several posts in the team they can’t fill.

Agreed Lloyd, but I don't think he was attacking Irish workers, just EU workers in general, there have been many studies that have shown, the mass influx of low skilled workers has damaged alot of UK workers pay and terms, we should do like Australia does and only allow workers in who will be a net bonus to our country, I've no problems at all with immigration or workers visas where they're needed.

I know mate. Same with the EU workers though. Those such as nurses etc who want to come here to work with skills we need, we should encourage to stay and come.

Unskilled scroungers we don’t want.

Infact we should encourage the unskilled, unwilling we have here, to move to Eastern Europe 😂 they’d be rich on their benefits over there and we’d be rid 😂

Knowing that we can get nursing staff from abroad has meant that the NHS has stopped training its own nurses. At one time every hospital had its own nursing school and its own nurses home and trained its own nurses.

Girls were paid to train as nurses, and they lived for free while they were training. It was a chance for girls from poor backgrounds to better themselves and thousands did ever year.

Today if a person wants to go into nursing its through the degree route with student debt etc, plus the competition for the small number of places is very high. We need thousands of nurses but we only train a few hundred each year. It becomes a self fulfilling prophesy that we need to recruit from abroad.

This is where immigration becomes insidious, what about all the British kids who will never be nurses, because they couldn't get a training place and are destined to work on a checkout instead? Or the boys who will never be carpenters, plumbers, or brickies because the Technical Colleges have all closed?
