Nest

I was asked (again) about the nest I made to attract Corvids.

This is it, and it's worked well, especially with Magpie's. I set it out around 80 yards and either use my .22 Hornet or my preferred .204 Ruger.

Love it, excellent.  I cover an orchard and large chicken free range area for a local farmer and that would work a treat. Always maggies about...shot two this morning.

Are they real eggs or the rubbery ones?

What time of year do you use this ruse?

I have trouble decoying corvids in and am interested in this technique.

hello, i remember you made this steve as i bought some plastic eggs off Aliexpress, i just put mine out with a crow or magpie/s decoy

Plastic eggs, via AliExpress (China)

I use it all year round, as it' doesn't seem to bother the Corvids. The frame, is glued onto a plastic base, then the twigs are glued onto each other. I've also glued the eggs in place and, since the photo was taken, have added some other plastic eggs that I cut in half and put some yellow cotton wool inside.

Yes, that's right. It's never failed to work. Finding the time to use it is my biggest problem.

And where do you put the nest?

Is it on the ground or low enough in a tree to shoot easily.

On the ground, usually placed on a mound, and always with a safe backstop. Too dangerous to put in a tree with the calibre's I'm using.

If you have a Larsen and no call bird put a bit of straw in the bottom and two or three eggs, it takes a bit longer for the birds to find it but it works a treat, especially around farm buildings.

hello, we tried some eggs in a Larsen trap on my friends farm, it might have worked had it not got run over with the tractor (not by me) at least the eggs survived

I will be making one today as there are alot
