grahamch
Any recommendations for a thermal top? My Merino top is now worn out and needs replacing. TIA
bruno22rf
As a life long Captain Frosty I think I have tried most of them but it's the cheap ones in places like B&M that seem to work best - until you tumble dry them. This year I have discovered the Champion padded shirt (around £16 on the Bay) works great with a quilted top - reckon I could sleep in the freezer with this on - bottom's are fleece lined women's leggings ( let the laughter commence) at around a fiver again on the Bay - really warm but ,most likely, not as warm as the heat generated by your red face if you were rushed into A&E. Longstrider
If you feel the cold treat yourself to a couple of Norgies I have to wait until it's well below freezing to wear mine coz I sweat my whotsits off otherwise. https://www.amazon.co.uk/GENUINE-BRITISH-ARMY-Thermal-Norgie/dp/B00G0TNA70 Buy them oversized so there's plenty to tuck into your trousers, wear a jumper over the top, and whatever jacket you'd normally wear to keep the breeze off. You'll be warm as toast.
das
Go to a Golf shop or club Pro and look at Galvin Green, Under Armour or Ivanhoe base wear. Large choice, not cheap but superbly functional. That good that you don't feel yourself wearing them. joejoe
Aldi do 100% merino wool for about £15 sometimes. I have a Rab on too which is pretty good. Costco polyester ones are ok for the price. Norgi is good for wildfowling with a thin on underneath and a jacket on.
panoma1
Dunno about thermal tops etc, but as an under jacket, mid layer (Over a normal shirt) I use a 100% wool Swanndri Ranger Shirt on the marsh......superb, wonderfully warm bit of kit! Scully
For beating ( when we're either sweating off our trossocks or standing in the cold ) I've been wearing a HH top underneath a micro thin fleece and Laksen jacket, and that's it for the top half. Toasty warm.
