Hello,

I’m looking at getting a shotgun deactivated, I know about the certification etc.

My question is, do I give it to a local Smith to deactivate and send away for certification or does the proof house do all the work?

Thanks

That's the one!

Do you know what the usual price would be?

This is a "how long is a piece of string" question, because you have not made it clear whether its a single barrel / a double hammer or hammerless / an auto or a pump. Prices will vary from RFD to RFD and in different parts of the country. Ring you nearest Gunsmiths and enquire, however the rules have been tightened over the years and the costs of the machining and welding are not cheap plus carriage to & from the Proof House. The Proof House examination / certification is on top. I dont expect you will get much change from £150 and possibly more depending on the work required on a particular type of gun.
