New Jimny Launch

Recommended Posts

The previous Jimny was sold in Europe with a diesel option 1.5.There was very little interest in it & petrol far outsold it.Probably the reason they didn't bother with the UK .Now look at the price of diesel, its anywhere from 10/18 per litre. The stealth tax on this fuel has already started and will get more expensive the nearer they get to banning it.Suzuki know that 90% of Jimny buyers dont do excessive miles therefore there would be no saving for the buyer if diesel continues to increase.

Regarding a Turbo, most small cars fitted usually have annoying turbo lag.I had it on the Fiesta and also it was terrible on a 124 Spider i recently test drove.Ive not had a chance to drive the new Jimny as yet. However if its as punchy and smooth as the little 1.2 dueljet thats fitted in our 2017 Ignes then it simply won't require one.At 19k miles since June 2017 it's been a surprisingly pleasurable drive be it motorway or urban driving.I wouldnt expect to get in a Jimny and assume its going to drive the same as a family car or a Soft 4x4 heigh end offroader. Also regarding reviews, its ok to drive a car for a couple of hours and then conclude. However you have had to live with the previous model long term and then live with the new for more than just a couple of hours to make a comparison.I dont understand reviewers who jump into 4X4's and the complain about body roll ext.Its not a Family/hot hatch you intend to go to Ikea in and return 60mpg. Its also annoying that they assume fuel type is at the forefront when purchasing a Jimny. It clearly isn't the case as again they are wrongly assuming a large %age are  purchased as a family car.

Exactly.

Currently, the writing is on the wall for diesel (rightly or wrongly does not matter).

If Suzuki wasn't interested in selling a diesel Jimny here in the early 2000's when fuel was a lot cheaper - and everyone was switching to diesels - I can not see them doing it now...

Anybody else got their name down for a test drive? Launches on 01/01/19.

Apparently they are only bringing 600  units to the UK in January. However there is already an show of interest list of over 10,000.You tube reviews have been fantastic & Suzuki are now stating that they won't need to bother with any TV campaigns. They claim they won't be to meet demand in the UK.

I have already seen a Germany registered New Jimny listed on ebay with a starting price nearly 4k over the list price.

Ive had two Jimnys in the past and i loved them.Love the look of the 2019 model but getting hold of one will be hard. The 600 units coming to the UK already have owners according to my local Suzuki dealer.

Wifes Ignis is due to go back in June & really fancy another Jimny, but at this rate there probably won't even be any to test drive.

Thats frightening 5K for an old escort in a plastic mac . LOL!

My uncle had a Rickman ranger had a 2 litre OHC GXL Cortina engine in it , Twas frightening in most ways like handling stopping fuel noise and of course acceleration.

If you watch a half dozen New Jimny reviews on Youtube you will find that pretty much all of them mention the obvious need of the model for diesel and auto variants,

Half a dozen inaccurate views then,,,the auto variant is right there in the new line up.

I think it's very square and a bit of a step backwards for aerodynamics and better economy.

I don't think.its ugly but it's not going to win any beauty contest either. The G Wagon it's compared to is no stunner.

Autos are better for off-road and most cars are offered with them.

I do think it's looks and is very functional and that's missing from virtually every other new 4x4.

I drove one of the a few weeks ago, I still have a soft spot for the Jimny as my first car was a soft top model S410 back in 1987!

The problem with the new model is the gearbox, 3 1/2 thousand revs at 60/65mph is not good and the engine although bigger than the old S410 is totally gutless.

Am I the only one that thinks it’s ugly as sin and blocky? 🤷‍♂️

No you're not. I much prefer the old look.

After driving diesels for 20 years I drove several petrol cars and found they all rev a lot at 70 but it’s just normal for petrols to me. I guess unless they’re massive engines .

They should of stuck the 1.2 dueljet in it.I drove the wifes 2017 Suzuki Ignis back from York today.65mph @ just a tad over 2 thousand revs & still returned 58mpg.

I sat in one the other day and they have fixed the reason I finally gave up on them. Being tall I used to find the shelf on the door where the window and mirror controls were kept used to give me terrible pain in the knee. They have got rid of the shelf by moving the controls Gloriously simple solution so I think it is a great idea. Still has great off road potential I reckon. Like all the Jimny predecessors it is what it is.

Think they will ramp up production to meet demand. Also offer more variants in future.

Davyo have you seen the Black Bison one ?

Only part I dont like is the bonnet scoops. The rest of it looks good for some off-road exploring.
