Bangbangman
My son and daughter (12 and 14yr old) are getting a Hatsan Escort "magnum" 12g semi-auto for Christmas. Can anyone recommend ammunition that will be low recoil yet still cycle? Initially they'll be shooting Clays. Thanks.
bornfree
Comp X are very low recoil. But iam afraid it's try them and see it the hatsan will cycle them.
prem1234
yes my lad shoots Hull Comp X 21g cartridges which are low recoil and has no problems.....
Stephen-H
Hull x comp are brillant cartridges with little recoil even in 28gram 7.5 loads . The eley select 28gram 7.5 /8s are soft as butter as well I've shot over 150 plus cartridges of each in a day and never had a issue with feeling them in my shoulder. If you wanted a bigger load due to cycling issues try 29gram 6s from lyvale express pigeon power or hulls super fast range

My missus uses 21g comp x but I'm pretty sure they are in a 65mm case? Wouldn't have thought an escort would cycle something so short? islandgun
My Armsan 28g wont cycle Hull carts
figgy
A lightweight 12 like a Yildiz with compx 21g you wouldn't feel recoil. The Hatsan will usually need a bit more oomph in a cartridge to cycle.
TIGHTCHOKE
Just make sure of the length of the cartridge rather than the load it is carrying. The majority of Semi-Auto's struggle with 65mm length shells but will happily cycle the same load from a 70mm shell. I hope they enjoy using the gun. rovercoupe
The only 70mm 21g load I know of is the amber cartridge, plenty of 24g cartridges in 70mm and some feel like they have less recoil than the 21s my 1100 will run 21g loads with only one fail to cycle in every 50 or so but 24g work perfectly. Guest cookoff013
21g loads are more common in 65mm. to put it in 70mm it is a pain.

On the next stand my mate loaded his Armsan (basically a Hatsan) semi with these for his mises to have a go ... nothin but issues ... then again they are 65mm so it is expected 👍 As above Eley Amber are meant to be very low recoil . And I’m sure they come in 70mm there next on the “to buy list “ for her in 24g ... purely because there pink 😂😂 SS Edited January 7, 2019 by secret-squirrel
Bangbangman
Thanks for all the advice. In the end he was quite comfortable with a 28g fibre wad clay cartridge (Olympic Blue?). Might try some of the other suggestions here. As you all know, it’s a steep learning curve but he really loved his first experience with a shotgun.
