Has anyone watched any of the first couple of series?

My wife is amused by it and persuaded me to watch it and I must admit to being pleasantly surprised. Written by that comedy genius Ben Elton it stars David Mitchell who I had previously thought unwatchable due to his nasal tones. A deep understanding of Shakespeare is not necessary but some knowledge of some of his plays, particularly the titles would help.

It is worth a watch.

Think I missed the first as I thought it would irritate me but watched it after that and is now something I look out for. I've only the loosest knowledge of Shakespeare but enough to get the humour. Quacks was in a similar vein where some loose knowledge of Victorian medicine didn't go amiss. Don't mind David Mitchell having enjoyed much of the excellent Peep Show.

Now that was a classic, probably the best comedy he has ever done.

I have seen a few episodes and enjoyed it.  It is maybe a little bit silly and a touch cheesy, but i think it is all the better for that.

There have been some suggestions it was written as a loose parody of Sir Mark Rylance, the esteemed and most earnest classic Shakespearian actor of his generation.  I like that thought too.

I just don’t get it. I love David Mitchell but I find the writing so silly and the canned laughter is awful.

I wanted to like it but I hated it. That god awful bloke doing a Ricky Gervais (who I cannot stand)  impression made me want to spew.

It could have been good, but it wasn't IMO.

Agree that Peep Show is a classic.
