Greener Side Safety

I have been offered a Greener 16 bore at a reasonable price, but it has a side safety. Do any other forum user have this type of safety catch and is it easy to use as it seems a bit out of the way. The guns on sale on the net all seem to have this safety catch so there must be a good number of them about, also do any members have any advice on this make of gun

I have two, both 12g although one built for game (6 1/2lb) and the other for duck shooting (7 1/2lb). Oddly it is the 'Far Killer' duck gun that is auto safe.

Absolutely fine to use as long as there is enough grip to the safety catch otherwise a cold or gloved hand can slide over the top.

They are very simple to use and you will soon adapt ,assuming you are right handed . If the checkering [for want of a better term ] on the button is worn then it can be a bit slippy but not difficult to re-cut

There were a lot of these that were standard on all Greener Fasil Princip guns that were non auto so it may not be a problem .

If it is and you and you want it  made auto then any competent gun smith  experienced with English guns should be able to make it auto with out any trouble .Not job for the DIY man .

More info, 30" barrels 2 3/4 chambers, just heard back from Greeners made in 1936 and shipped to Tokyo. This would explain a odd inscription after the Pall Mall address which Greener does not recognise. Grade Fh 50 but can not find another on Internet , just 12 bores. Shot first squirrel with it weekend and plan a round of clays next to see if all ok

Grade FH50 meaning it's an ejector sold in 1936 for 50 Guineas. Equivalent in today's money of around £3850. Quality indeed and in the best gauge :good:
