It when metal rubbs on metal and wears a grouve damaging the parts .

Grease is only a temp sloution .

Silicone lube  can actually make it worse .

My lightening sufferes from it a bit on the cocking link

Same place as the hw 99 (common issue )

Get some disulphide  greese on it first

Its often enough to keep the issue at bay .but if left can get worse and greese wont help much .

if it is the cocking lever............on some other english air rifles you have what is called "a slipper plate"...can be made out of steel or brass...........it is often the case that this piece is lost when people fiddle about with a gun.........check the drawings that you are not missing it.........

silly thing is......if you look at the "Chambers diagrams (BSA)............the part dosnt excist either for the MK 1-2-3-4-and S...........yet if you go the the "Knibbs" site and dial in slipper plate...it comes up with a pic for that model.......

Galling when two metals under load cold weld and year apart. Stainless steel threads are a nightmare so is aluminium.

Polishing the surfaces and using good lube can help short term. Brazing/tinning the surface of the moving part with brass and filing back would work.if no slipper plate can be had.
