What is it about really?  Push back against taxes?

That and much more, the people of France are really not happy with their government, over 4 months of rioting every weekend,  deaths, injuries, pretty brutal police crackdowns.

President Macron still thinks he can ride the storm and survive this, but his unpopularity is the key issue.

Any normal leader would step down.

Amazing that BBC finally reports on French yellow vest protests rampaging the country.

To be fair, the BBC have reported on this at various times since the protests started, although admittedly the coverage has been sporadic and hardly in depth.

Looking at various comparison websites, petrol is a few pence dearer and diesel is a few pence cheaper per litre.

Petrol a bit more expensive than here, diesel about the same or a bit less  or at least it was at the end of November. Witnessed a guy cutting the barriers off the toll booths with a portable angle grinder on the A8 exit for Antibes in the South just outside Nice, looked like he was on his fourth one before the gendarmerie arrived although it wasn't immediately obvious that they were even going to arrest him.

Thank's, I had not seen it before, I also noticed SKY reported it - which I have not seen much of.

It occurred to me something may have changed about their position on the EU/Brexit status which altered their stance on it - and not much other news apart from the New Zealand killings.

thats interesting...............i thought it was a lot cheaper there................thats why the lorry drivers fill up extra tanks when coming over here so they dont have to use our filling stations...........

but that appears not to be the case anymore,....

Went to France three times by car last year, in May, July and october.

There was a large increase between the summer trip and the autumn one, probably more than 10% in fuel prices.

Think it was after Macrons fuel rise that the yellow jackets started up.

What was started by ordinary people always gets hardliners jumping in later just to cause trouble.

Main stream media are likely portraying them as making unreasonable demands and being either extreme left or right, in reality I think there's a lot of ordinary folk on the street who are sick of Macron and sick of being ripped off.

I think your right with it being mostly ordinary people. Would it make any different who was at the helm? France has an unsustainable social structure and when you row it back it hurts. This has to happen more and more.

And sick of the EU

Yeah I thought of that to but didn't want to start another brexit debate on a separate thread, but I agree.

Your probably right to an extent, although I think Macron is a particularly divisive individual.

There seem to be a few reports that the army will be deployed to back up the police this weekend.

General Bruno Leray says they may be allowed to open fire if lives are threatened by the yellow vests.

Reported as a ‘biggy’ When In fact this already exists with the Police, all are armed and if the situation dictates then they are able/will shoot.

The Army is reinforcing the Police who are fatigued in having to deal, week in , week out, of the protests.

So move along, nothing to see but media hype once again.

I think what there after should be already in place. Not unreasonable at all, government has given away or sold off and sold its people down the river.

The government spends more and thinks they will just tax more, especially stealth taxes.

I saw a video on you tube about the protests and when you get away from Paris the protesters look very  well behaved with fire service and police joining in.

Correct.

Where our place is in the South, they sit out every day on one of the roundabouts having a bbq and general socialising.

In the next largest town on the coast they are doing the same just off the AutoRoute exit- only difference is they have charity donation type bucket and a few are selling what can only be described as lapel mini yellow vests for €2. No pressure selling or aggression- just a cheery smile and “Bon weekend” given.

Work wise, our Company have issued Crew Alerts to be vigilant in and around the hotels that we stay at ( Bordeaux, Lyon, Nice, Toulouse) and I have not heard of a single crew member reporting anything sinister.

Paris it does seem, is the epicentre of the protest which in my opinion have been hijacked/ infiltrated, by others who’s intentions are not in the mainstream protesters best interests.
