Seat altea cam belt change

Recommended Posts

Conflicting advice on line regarding milage to change a cambelt, water pump etc for a 2 litre tdi.

Some quoting 40k or 4 years, some are saying 60k or even some as high as 1000k.

Anyone offer advice

They didn't know 😂.. Nearest was a vag engine in the leon but they are different. A dealer will not be doing the job, I had a service booked stamped yet half the work wasn't done. I have a friend who services my cars

It varies depending on when the car was new - some engines - even though they might look like the same 2.0TDi, have considerable differences. Which is probably  why you are seeing conflicting advice.

What year and what engine code.

My old 2004  Leon 1.9 TDIwas c.80,000 miles or 5 years.

My newer 2.0 TDI is apparently c.100,000 to 120,000 miles or 5 years  - depends where you look.

The official line:

"The maximum recommended mileage interval for a cambelt change is stated in your vehicle handbook (varies depending on model, year and engine type.) We recommend your cambelt is changed every five years or recommended mileage, whichever occurs soonest."

Its always in the handbook. Best to look there for the definitive answer. Also it will tell you the actual engine code.

I recommend at that age and mileage that you get it changed .

Agreed. Also do waterpump, tensioners, rollers, etc.
