410 and D037.2

Recommended Posts

On paper this appears to be a good powder. Very slightly faster than H110 and about the same as SP3.

I suspect its the same as 4100 and others but cant confirm it.

I can find no data specifically for this powder. I know it replaced AA9 for which there is scant data.

I emailed explosia.cz who tell me they have no 410 data for it.

I have just mailed them back pointing out it says on the label its suitable for 410 !

I plan on using this in 3inch cases for clay busting.

Anyone using it?

Cheers, Tony

Just looked it up...

D037.2 High density, double base, ball propellant similar to Accurate No. 9 is most suitable for .44 Magnum. This propellant gives excellent velocities for the pressures generated and with less flash than other comparable powders. It is intended for use in large capacity handgun cartridges (.357, .41, .44 Magnum and .454 Casull). It is also suitable for some small rifle cartridges (.25-20 Winchester, .30 M1 Carbine) and the .410 shotgun. It is the best with heavier bullets in most calibres. Our slowest handgun propellant.

Powder  Grams  - Grains - m/s -   ft/sec - max grams - mag gr - m/s - ft/sec - max bar - max psi

D037.2 - 1.200  - 18.5  - 370  - 1214 - 1.300 - 20.1  - 415  - 1361 - 2800 - 40600

SP3         - 1.28   - 19.8 -   371 - 1221 - 1.60 - 24.6 - 415 - 1361 - 2800 - 40600

Compares as slightly hotter to SP3 in 44rem mag with 240gr bullet.

Would like to see some 410 reloading data for it, burn rate chart below (don't know how it would come out on screen), on par with Bluedot?

Ok, these tabs need to be taken with a pinch of salt or 10

A0 was indeed of similar burning rate of 800X but this is no longer the case as recent tests proved it to be a far quicker powder: with 800X in 20 bore i can load up to 33-34g; with A0 28g is the limit these days.

Now, this Lovex powder seem to be similar to SP2 which isn't a great powder for heavy .410 load: SP3 in .410 you can load 18-20g with SP2 you won't be able to go higher than 14-14.5 g (but will pay the higher payload with higher pressure and slower speed).

Recently tested with SP2: 0.7g x 14g (PMAX: 781 Bar; V0: 375 m/s); if oyu add the 0.5 you will probably run into the high 800 bar and just over 350 m/s

That said, the only way to find out how the D037 works is to test a few loads and see what they produce in terms of data.

thanks,
