It's in a hard water area so I'm looking into the prospect of a water softener. I currently live in a hard water area with no water softener and I am tired of scrubbing limescale off everything. The net seems to be a jumble of 'it's fine' and 'you will kill the world' if you discharge regeneration water into the septic tank system. I'm looking for answers/experiences from people who have had a septic tank system and a water softener. Was it ok? did you have problems? Diver One Posted June 10, 2019 Report Share Posted June 10, 2019 (edited) I know nothing about septic tanks BUT my shooting partner is Mving house ( built mid 50s) in a chance conversation with another mate of mine he mentioned his septic tank. He was told to look at the new Septic Tank regulations "Septic tank 2020".....and the can of worms was opened basically if a hOuse is put up,for sale AND it has an older style tank in MOST cases this has to be changed and MUST be done prior to,purchase by the VENDOR. His was a 3 chamber with tippler plate discharging into a local brook in my mates case the tank is shared with a neighbour and the vendor is being a rear orifice and as he has already dropped his price he is reluctant to drop,any more. After 2 months arguing he is going to pay half of his half. My mate is so peed off he is paying the other bit so he can complete. It is my understanding that only septic systems that discharge into a watercourse must be changed in/by 2020. All other systems if new works e.g. increase capacity, then must be brought up to current regulation. Nothing has been flagged by our solicitor and I can see nothing that will immediately effect me.
