Pheasant times

Recommended Posts

Hi lads,

What times will pheasant be leaving woods in the morning or returning to roost at night?

Im trying to get my young dog onto some flushes and want to get there when the birds most likely to be around 👍🏻

Is it just as simple as, as soon as it gets light and when it’s getting dark? 😂

To be honest I wouldn't want anyone training there dogs on game at this time of year due to young broods. Birds come off roost at first light and go back at last light. Again, training dogs to flush birds as they are heading back to roost is not very good practice.

😂 Reminded me of when our part time keeper once asked me to help him dog our birds in. My Border was surprisingly well behaved, and we eventually got all our fairly young and just recently arrived birds back in the pens when I think it all got a bit too much for her and she rushed the enclosed birds........whoooosh, most took to the air and back into the woods! Start again! 🙁

😂😂

thankfully I don’t go on any big shoots, just a few rough spots with wild birds or birds who’ve run off from their shoots.
