21 police patrol motorcycles,3 police cars all with blue lights flashing,18 support motorcycles with riders in orange vests,1 county ambulance and an unknown number of local council workers in council vehicles, Sunday morning at 9.00 am on the new Norwich ring road near Sprowston, This is what our rates are spent on, and what were they doing you may ask, Well I will tell you, escorting approximately 50 yes 50 road race cyclists on a Sunday morning jaunt, who in gods name authorised this madness, traffic was at a standstill both side of the roundabout for almost 20 minutes, actual time for the peleton to pass the road block about 15 seconds, With knife crime, drugs, burglaries and who knows what other crime waves we are suffering in Norwich , all on the increase, police say limited funds and staffing problems restrict their response time and efforts, NO RESTRICTION for a bunch of cyclists though, some one should be held to account for this total waste of public and police funds.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bloody disgrace! Dont care if the cyclists paid for it themselves........the police should be out catching villains and other lawbreakers, or granting/renewing gun licenses within a reasonable timescale (2 or 3weeks)..............a total ******* waste of resources!

Should simply charge the organsers, mind the police motorcyclists probably enjoyed the freedom to be out and about and not filling in tick box forms.

I agree with both. It won't be the personnel on patrol who decided it was a good idea. Someone higher up has sanctioned this waste of resources. Sadly the alternative version of catching villains is less likely due to the "tick box forms".

Write to the police complaints commission, ask who and why this waste of recourses was allowed.

Sunday mornings are usually folk going for a jaunt in fast cars or bikes. Plenty of over the limit drivers too.

Not going to catch them while parading along.

Probably pushed by somebody high up interested in cycling.

When we had a cycling freak in a position of authority on our council we all had to suffer the entire village roads closed for about six hours whilst a bunch of Lycra louts raced round the roads. It doesn’t happen now that man is not a councillor.

+1

someone volunteered Norwich for the "The Great British Cycling Festival"  so it's our turn to suffer the lyra louts

Rumour control has it that the head of Norwich roads  doesn't even drive :-0

I often bump into cyclists down the country lanes riding two or three abreast, they are most put out when they have to go single file for me to pass them.

I hope that was a Freudian slip!

They always seem to moan that nobody respects them on the road and they seem to have utter disregard for any other road user and their own personal safety.

With regard to the OP, I think it might be prudent to write to your Chief Constable and your Police and Crime Commissioner and request they justify their use of the Personnel when they are constantly moaning about Staffing and Funding.

As has been mentioned it wont be the ordinary people on the ground that made the decision.

We had the same with the Birmingham  "Velo" cycle event a month or two ago, all the roads around the route were closed, no buses, no cars......some roads were fully closed from 8am until about 6pm! Some people were stuck in the house all bloody day........why? So that thousands of amateur cyclists could ride around Birmingham on mile upon mile of empty roads! The place was crawling with police motorcycles, ambulances, marshals etc......it inconvenienced everyone, except the cyclists.....god know how much it cost, and who paid for it?

Just have to face the music, cycling, veganism, vegetarianism and all of the the ism's are all current flavour with the hierachy  who assume we are in need of moving our rear ends a bit more so allowing another host of boxes to be ticked? Common sense faded away 30 years ago when we assumed responsibility for ourselves?

Never mind the actuality look at the ticked boxes?

My mate is traffic and trust me he’d prefer to be catching burglars . He spends a lot of time baby sitting boy racers.

in Tamworth I over heard we have 2 police cars and a van.

80-90,000 people and they share the vehicles with Lichfield, Burton too.

Recruitment is closed again for the police but they have loads of specials . Free staff

Judging from the OP.........they seem to be able to find the resources when they want to!

Drop an email to your local papers and suggest they do an article on it, local rags are often only too happy to report on these sort of things. The more people that are made aware of these kind of money wasting exercises the better.

Yes by cancelling days off.

I doubt any cop asked to be there.

Probably, but I bet they are paid an enhanced rate to help cushion the blow?......My beef isn't with the footsoldiers, as is usual, they don't control the decisions! Its their superiors and the politicians that do!
