mgsontour
Hi all, the wife wants some shoes that are only available in the US for birthday. . . last year I used a 'drop shipping firm' who did the job but when I got the final bill(s) they ended up really expensive as I was charged for unwrapping, re-wrapping, posting, then got a bill from UPS for posting, taxes and import duties. . . . does anyone know how to shop without all the additions ( don't mind some but hate being taken for a ride ) Thanks in advance
JTaylor91
What shoes are they? Contact the company that make them, they may be able to ship direct to your address. Worst case is you’ll pay the tax and import duties (you may get away with it) but non of the the other charges with drop shipping.
figgy
Of ordering from USA I just double the purchase price and it's about right for delivered to your door. Other way is if you know someone in USA who would take delivery and then post them to you.

mgsontour
Thanks everyone, the company will only deal on the domestic market ( sperry shoes ), don't know any yankies and tk max evidently do get some styles in from time to time but obviously they are no good for the wife! Yes, the only way I get stuff shipped these days is through a friend in the USA. I reimburse them the shipping cost plus a little gift. pinfireman
Buying from a commercial seller in the States is costly, because they invariably use their own favoured shippers (UPS, or USPS) get a discount from them but pass on full postage price to you. But if you buy from a private seller, you can arrange, from here in the UK, via a really good company called Parcel Broker, for FEDEX, TNT etc. to collect from the seller, on a pre-arranged convenient day, and deliver to your door. It,s the method I use, and it costs me about 50% less. If you can find a private contact in the States, who will take local delivery of your item, use this method. I just send my guy Sporting Gun magazines, which he avidly reads, and passes on to others in his gun club. Works a treat!
