Hammer And GS

In my kit I have a hammer and a 25mm spike and always set the hide up as firm as I can.

I have two fishing spots on the canal and have taken a 25mm masonry drill and bit and drilled into the compacted gravel holes for my rod rest and brolly. I fit branch off cuts into the holes when I leave flush with the path for future use.

Now THAT is forward thinking  !    I did a similar thing on the edge of a gravel clad farm track many years ago, it only came into it's own on crop rotation, every 3/4 years but it saved many a damaged hide pole.  I plugged the holes with pieces cut off a broom handle ( I never did tell the Wife  !   😄 )
