Any thoughts ?

I have a Marlin 880SQ  22rf and it is very scary accurate but with a silencer fitted it is also long and unwieldy out of the Landie window. I am considering having the barrel shortened by about 6 inches ..basially the length of the silencer.  Any thoughts ?  Would the shorter barrel be a problem shooting the .22 sub sonics.  personally I don't think so as long as the job is done professionally and the crown finished professionally.   Appreciate your input.   OR  go against all I have said previously and buy a quality FAC bullpup air rifle and sell the Marlin ????

You're welcome to have a feel of my well shortened 14" barrel Sako Quad .22lr for manoeuvrability next time you pass Neville.  Its not zero'd so no live firing opportunity unless I swap out the 16" HMR barrel if you have the time. Its accurate enough for me but hardly ever used as I prefer the HMR.

i had my  .22lr cz452 american shortened to 12.5 inches , and i fitted a short carbon fibre mod , when i first used it , i thought that id ruined the gun , but over the following few weeks , i got to grips with it , and its fantastic.

i can bring it over with me if you want nev , and you can put a few eley subs through it , its great from the car window.

i have seen rifles that shoot ok when shortened and others that are useless after 50yds   the rifles are made to shoot with the length of barrel thats on them if you want need a short one for any reason ie shooting from a motor buy a short one ie ruger 10/22 etc

Bought a ruger 10/22 last week. 2'' groups at 50mtr. 5 different ammo types. Not good enough.

As a rule I completely agree, it's made that length for a reason, but on a 22 rimfire shooting sub 100mtr, taking a bit of a 22inch barrel shouldn't hurt it, certainly wouldn't consider it on a cf for range work
