steve_b_wales
I've noticed that on the above saplings that I'm growing, a white powdery film has appeared on the leaves. It wipes off easily, but I'm wondering what this could be, and if there's anything out there that can stop/kill it off.So far, it hasn't harmed the leaves. walshie
It's mildew. I don't know if it can be treated completely or just contained.
everycal
I think I used a vinegar solution once to cure it. Check elsewhere first but that’s what came straight to mind.

steve_b_wales
Thanks for all the advice etc. I'll look into this further, as I want to try and get rid of it is possible, before I pass them on.

It's killed a few leaves already, within a few days. I've tried a vinegar/water mix on the leaves as mentioned on here, and also by someone on a woodland website. sandspider
Powdery oak mildew? Had it on mine in the past, think they all (or at least mostly) survived. I didn't prune or anything, just watered and mulched a bit.
ph5172
I know a few doors down used a weak bleach solution - I will ask how he got on (they were in his back garden) i wonder how it spreads? All ours had it yet 6ft away the other side had none? mine appear to be clear now and are growing back ok (9 months or so) Edited August 2, 2019 by ph5172
steve_b_wales
Well, the mildew or whatever it was/is has all but destroyed the leaves on my saplings. I'm going to keep them and see if they will grow again next year.
rimfire4969
Fingers crossed they will come back. The ones you sent me have done very well. I have managed to get The Woodland Trust with their More Woodland Scheme involved so the have now sorted a Site Plan with a species mix and planting plan which your ones will be included in. A big thank you again for the plants.

A big thank you again for the plants. I'm glad they are doing well. This is the first time I've had this mildew (?) on the leaves, in all the years I've grown Oaks. Usually, it's the Horse Chestnut saplings that get fungus or leaf miner mites on them. I'm going to start groing a few 100 more shortly and hope that they will be okay next year.
