Walker570
Does the farm have one of these digester set ups. It looks very much like the tall grass that one of our neighbours grows for that purpose. He leaves a small acreage to ripen..similar to the photo and then combines it for the next seed supply. dad
The whole field is the height and colour of ripe barley or wheat i think it still has a couple of weeks to go as some are still slightly green like the one on the left. Only 1 head per plant i think.no weeds so well looked after. 1 hour ago, Walker570 said: Does the farm have one of these digester set ups. Not familiar with the farm but it was a big acreage no smell to it

scolopax
it is grown on one of the farms I shoot. It is canary seed, for the bird feed industry literally to feed canaries (and other such birds)

Exhibition quality Norwichs can go for many hundreds of pounds. An acquaintance is one of the top Yorkshire canary breeders/exhibitors/judges in the country and he has mentioned £700 - 800 for exhibition quality Yorkies. I had acquired a stud of 20 Fife canaries from him and another respected breeder last October and they averaged out at £40 a bird. Sadly all now sold due to events, 4 months after getting everything together. It was a very tidy set up, all that remains now is the shed. Penelope
22 minutes ago, ditchman said: aahhh thats a shame.................... Came in at around £3k all told, for shed, cages, birds, units, specialist lighting and controls, work top, show cages, seed hoppers, drinkers, baths, etc. Sold for £1,500. Everything went to a older chap from Darlington who has kidney failure, as a job lot. So at least I hope it helps as a distraction from his illness.
