You had a bargain there. Grant won't find one that cheap I bet.

Yeah been flat out, picked up some nice new ground. 7 charlies first visit to one farm. Not been shot over for a few years. They had lost half a dozen ducks night before my visit, so I am warmly welcomed anytime, good to make a nice first impression.

price it up. infact if you were to buy equivalent shells,

in the first 1200shells it would have paid for itself (12gauge.).

plus no manufacturer makes 42g subsonics. letalone the fibre environmentaly friendly subsonics.

So when you make a subsonic is it just less powder to give it less umph ?

yeah to a point, its just less of a powder thats running quite high pressures already but with low speed. those high pressures keep the efficiency up even though there is less powder.

so for 12gauge  subsonic 42g lead loads, i use vectan A1.

vectan A1 is used for low pressure 1oz loads,

normal 1,1/8oz 1300fps loads

1400fps loads at higher pressures

and 1,1/4oz loads at 1200fps at higher pressures

and 1,1/2oz loads at middle-ish pressures and subsonic (about 1000fps- 1020fps),

_fill in the gaps lads......

what size shell?

£30 primers/k

xx wads

xx hulls

lead-20kg is about £82 or about £74 depending on vendor.

i like lead 4s for subsonics. if it had been 12gauge, i`d have had 4 loads.

Today i got to. Cases based on 8 uses (they say 10 but some will split and get lost) 1.69p

Overshot card 1.14p. Primer 3.7p. Fibre wad 2.7p. nitro card 1.8p. 28g no 6 shot 7.5p. powder  20g 5p. Total 23.5p each or £235a 1000.

Compared to £245 for a 1000 24g no 7.5s

Some of the components could change but it would not change the price significantly unless my maths is wrong (more than possible 🙂 )

Prices from https://shotgunreloading.co.uk/

Based on 20g cases 100 at £13.5. 1000 overshot cards at £11.4. 1000 primers at £37.5. fibre wads 500 at £9. 10kg no 6 shot £37.5 powder 0.5 kg at £38.4.

were you to make a 24g subsonic it would even be cheaper.

you are comparing 28gram homeloads vs 24g factory.

if you are really overly concerned at the lack of shot, dont be, most subs pattern way tighter than any other cartridge and they do this through any choke.
