I carried a Browning HP, Sig P226 and Walther P5 whilst on active service in NI, but i'd never be allowed to own any of those here!

We had some old Browning HPs, probably some you had thrown away. Lucky to hit the County with them but have shot a few quality ones in the States and they are still more than capable.

IF I was to go for a long barrel job then it would have to be a revolver, it just looks right/better and historical.  Must have a buttstock attachement though.

If serious then a simple call to your FLO should solve your problem.

Hi

Was looking at a gsg 1911, not the same as a 9mm, but its getting there!

If set on the 1911, I would look at the Walther version

They also do a nice PPQ long barrel pistol

I wouldn’t waste your time or money my friend bought a GSG 1911 it was awful jammed all the time and horrible accuracy. Look at these just about the best you can get in the UK if you want a pistol and run it on pyrodex and hard cast bullets and it’s a proper pistol.

So how does the BP/muzzle loader stuff work to get around whole sec 5 thing? Can you have that muzzle loader revolver to plink away in the garden or is it a case of you have to be part of a club etc?

It’s based on CF capability and overall length of firearm, hence why carbines and LBR are exempt.

You still need to be a club member to legally possess and use a BP revolver.

They are great for what they are, BUT, a LBP comes with so many restrictions you have to be a real enthusiast to consider one.

I have a slot for one, I also have a proper pistol, and even though it is a revolver and not a semi, I have decided against the LBP route!

If you want the feel of pistol shooting, an LBP is a poor substitute.
They are fun the first few times out, but after a while they become a little boring.

Have you considered a muzzle loader ?
It doesnt have to be a civil war replica, Westlake do a .357 based S+W , using real .38sp or .357 mag bullets with nitro powder.
Yes it takes longer to reload, but you get the 'real' experience of pistol shooting.

Or if you just want a fun gun, a .22 lr semi auto black rifle is my go to gun.

Muzzle loaders come in all shapes and sizes too - Here's my 5 shot muzzle loading target pistol. It's was designed so UK shooters can still compete in the international UIT/ISSF centrefire pistol match.

It shoots a .32 98gn wadcutter bullet using nitro powder.

It's called a Zylab Patriot. - no longer in production but they do  come up from time to time. They usually come with two 5 shot (or 6 shot) magazines, and shoot just like a normal good quality target pistol (once the mag blocks are loaded)

The UIT centrefire match is/was 60 shots at 25 yards. 30 are shot slow fire on a static target and 30 shots on a turning target. The "duelling" phase is in strings of five shots. The target faces for 3 seconds and turns away for 7 seconds then faces for 3 and so on. This competition was normally shot with .32 semi-auto pistols or sometimes revolvers.

The 7 seconds away gives plenty of time to rack back the muzzle loader so is competitive with any normal target pistol.

All shot with open sights and one handed.
