At the end of the day if you want to own your own home you have to make sacrifices in life. Something the young entitled generation are not prepared to do.

Our kids CAN afford homes, the just don't want to start in a 2-bed ex-council terrace or semi, they want a 4 bed detached on a new build estate with the partner they've been with for 5 minutes.

Generalise much, chaps?  Precisely who do you think is buying the ex-council properties in the, uhhm, more interesting areas?  I certainly did so, admittedly knocking on for ten years ago.  I did it on a single income too.  The neighbour can't be more than 25, is a gas engineer and has just finished re-doing his place.

Back on topic, no deal Brexit (more accurately described as a WTO-rules Brexit) will be a damp squib compared to the massive rush for the exit should the current Labour shadow cabinet ever get anywhere near no 10.  Likely as not, myself included.  The 'brain drain' on economies when innovation-averse "tax the rich" governments come to power is a well-documented, if hard to quantify phenomenon.

Just looking at the stats and experience pal, but it's easier to generalise than to go into minute detail. 14 years ago we bought our fist home, ex-council semi in Barnsley. £75k in need of refurb, spent probably £30k on it over the years, only worth £90-100K currently. Every house we viewed was full of people our age complaining that the carpets weren't nice enough, or the wallpaper wouldn't do. Of course there are a hell of a lot of ex-council being bought by young buyers, but most of the new build in the UK are also going to under 25s, pretty much un-heard of 20 years ago! My comment was in response to the young not being able to get on the property ladder, those that want to, can. A lot just choose not to as they have high demands

High demands - that is the key.

It seems typical now that the young need to have as 'essentials', not luxuries;

  • A new or at least very recent mobile phone - with copious data and minutes contract
  • A minimum of one 'overseas foreign holiday a year - often a winter holiday as well
  • At least one evening out a week - for which I'm told typical spend is between £50 and 100
  • Subscription viewing and listening services such as Netflix, Sky, Spotify etc.
  • For many, a car - and for couples often 2 cars
  • A smart fitted kitchen
  • A large screen TV (often more than one)
  • High speed unlimited broadband
  • Bottle of wine many evenings when not out
  • Cigarettes (though this is much less common than in my 'youth'.) for some
  • Fashion clothing, trainers, etc.
  • For the females, having hair 'done', nails 'done' etc.

In my time as a young adult, all of these (or at least the equivalents at the time) were things you could only have if you had a fairly decent job, and most had to only do them occasionally because the mortgage had to come first.

A article from the Grauniad;

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/oct/06/poll-shows-conservative-party-15-points-ahead-of-labour

With Boris apparently struggling and Labour and the Liberal Democrats unable to instigate, let alone win a confidence vote, the Conservatives have a substantial lead in the most recent polls.

38% Conservative

23% Labour

15% Liberal Democrats

This ^^^

I know people who absolutely despise Corbyn and his mob, but still vote Labour because, "I'm a Labour man".

You could resurrect Hitler and put him in charge of Labour, and they would still vote Labour.

Some would even vote Labour if Jacob Rees - Mogg was the leader such are the entrenched views of some Labour voters.

The thing with a lot of these Labour heartlands as they are known is they are among the poorest areas of the country. Even though we have had Labour governments and after their relentless promises of untold wealth being thrust upon them from Labour are still in the same position. But of course they can always blame the tories even if they are not in power.

The clue is in who commissioned the poll ?

Other papers show labour on 19 , and some on 18 % !¬

Dont forget, labour will always capture those who have made  a 'living' out of receiving benefits.
Socialism encourages state dependency.
