First day picking up

Little Stan has had a day picking up instead of beating, the first drive didn't start well as where I was stood due to the terrain it was difficult to see were anything fell. He was cast off and found the bird's he was sent for, found them but wouldn't pick any up.

The next drive we could see everything and Stan was sent for selected bird's but he played about with them.

On the 3rd drive again he was sent for selected bird's and apart from 1 as another dog ran to him he dropped it and backed off all the others he picked but dropped short.

Final drive again selected bird's but this time he picked up what he was sent for and brought them in, finally it was all coming together just as the shoot finished.

All in all I am happy with the day as his confidence grew, he was never on a lead just sat perfect, no noise or anything. 😊

I don't think so JD during any training I've always tried to set it up so he has to use his nose /head. Little Stan is probably the softest springer I've ever known, he's never had hard correction as all that is needed is a slight change of voice. As he is so soft I think it's just a matter of building up his confidence.

BB I did wonder as the springer that ran towards him is a soft dog and Stan has seen her and been around her loads of time's.
