Hi I was not on shoot today but just been told one of the picker ups dogs was run over I phoned the lad that owns it was told it passed away at vets.

Whats made my blood boil is that the gun that done it didn’t give a fxxxxx just said it should have been on lead the dog was just on its way back to the motor after the days shoot.

What a ******* I am just glad I was not there I would have lost it hearing that apparently he comes from Conway area.

Sounds like the gun was a VIP, (in his own little world)

He needs a beating stick using as a suppository.

Just now, Yellow Bear said:

I suspect the shoot may find itself short of pickers up if the gun is a regular.

The shoots wont run without beaters. Thats more of an impact.

The shoot should have insurance to cover this sort of dreadful accident, there is no excuse for the behaviour of the person responsible VIP or not.🥴

I was being sarcastic 're VIP.

Having that awful reaction to the accident is just 100% unacceptable. Accidents happen,  avoidable yes, but they happen none the less and most from a lack of concentration or distraction.

The very least the vehicle driver should show some empathy, not shrug it off as has been posted.

Very sad state of affaires  to loss a dog in an accident but to rub salt into the wounds by the t*t who was involved is just not on .

As a man who works his dogs on a few shoots I have noticed a lack of respect from guns towards beaters and dogs . As not many thank you or even offer a kind word or a friendly pat to tired dogs.

Good manners cost nowt the person who ran the dog over will most likely  be thinking of how much it might  cost him if he said sorry and accepted his part in the accident.

Yes, I must admit I have met a few guns these days who are not what I call 'Countrymen'....shot a few clays and think they are the bees knees. You never see them wlk back at the end of the day and thank the beaters and pickers up for instance.  They leave their pegs and go picking up up birds they have shot instead of notifying pickers up of birds down and location.  The beaters and pickers up are..in my view...paid a pittance for what they do and require far more respect.  If I have birds down I stay on my peg until a picker up appears and notify him / her of the location/s.   If there was the lack of concern as reported then the beating/picking up team should say goodbye and see what the shoots reaction would be.

Any crowd funding there will be a 'note' in the post from me.

Lots of guns think beaters are just local scum who need a few quid and do it oy for money.

I've been on syndicate shoots where some guns have dogs and like work them on some drives early on,so will go as a walking gun working the dog and other guest guns have been less than gentleman towards them only to end up with egg on their face later in the day.

The best days I've been on are where guns and beaters pickers up all share their lunches and socialise together. Day works great when all are a big team. The them and us types are not fun.

I have spoke to the keeper and told him if that guy turns up again I will have to say something as I don’t let thinks drop till I have said or done something.

I have also told him that I will walk off and he can do what he likes with is birds I normally shoot two three times a month so if he loses me for one bloke that as never been there before it’s entirely up to him.

I don’t know what  the lad is going to do about another dog yet as I have not spoken to him today I thought would leave it couple days.

What a tragedy, it would have been bad enough with a passing motorist, but Gun on  the shoot to behave in  such  a callous manner is not to be forgiven.   A shoot I beat on now had a team member  looses a dog over a cliff face.  It was some years ago before my time but I think the shoot owner cancelled the day and the team dibbed in towards a replacement.
