I believe that the serial number would be between 1950 and 1955.  The official business name then was Stephen Grant and Joseph Lang Ltd and (according to the book "Atkin, Grant & Lang" by Don Masters), a common series of numbers was used by all of the 'names in the group' at that period.

If it is a boxlock, it is very likely to have been made in Birmingham by one of the trade makers there.  If it is a sidelock, it may have been made 'in-house'.  In either case, any true gunsmith/gunmaker should be able to help you.  Gun shops will only send any work on to a trade gunsmith as most do not have a resident gunsmith.  Atkin Grant and Lang are (as has been said) still in business, owned I believe by Francis Lovel & Co and are located in St Albans.  Francis Lovel have a shop near Newbury.
