Just like with cycling I would advocate anyone riding a scooter be required by law to wear a helmet. As a small scale personal mobility solution they are a great idea and when used as intended better than a lot of other alternative transportation methods, the issues arise in the mis-use cases of people with little or no regard for their own safety or that of others - just like a lot of people who ride bikes (who I don't necessarily consider to be cyclists 😉)

and like cycles the scooter to be fitted with adequate brakes and lights and to be ridden on the road not pedestrian areas

Don’t think I’ve seen any with lights, not even in Paris.

Just occurred to me that they’ll no doubt be used for criminal activities in due course, I mean beyond traffic offences.

I believe they already have been but can't remember where I read it.

I bought one a few years back but the tire was flat and I never pumped it up.  So I never really rode it.  It’s says 300lbs weight limit, and 15 mile range if I remember correctly. I could get down on that.

I lost interest in it when I bought a power wheel chair.  A buddy of mine added a second battery and cranked it up to about 12-15 mile per hour so it hauls ***. Eventually I want to put a recliner on the chassis.
